Leafminers live between the leaf membrane, chomping on the leaf cells.  The wiggly line shows it's journey through the leaf, starting at the tiny spot where the egg was laid and gradually growing wider as the larvae grows, eventually hatching out as an adult.  Leafminers can be caused by moths, mites and aphids.
